Courtauld Road Integrated Waste Management Facility
Essex County Council , as the waste disposal Authority for the County were seeking to raise the waste streams being generated within the southern half of the County up the ‘Waste Hierarchy’ and, where possible create revenue from that waste. The site chosen for the facility formed a functional flood plain which had been installed following the post-war expansion of Basildon.
The proposals were, therefore, required to relocate this function from the south of the A127 trunk road to the north of the road. The extensive Environmental Impact Assessment also had to consider the impacts of the construction and operation of the development on the adjacent Traveller community.
The public consultation exercise involved mail-shots to tens of thousands of residents and businesses as well as public exhibitions and public meetings.
